MANCHESTER UNITED

Booing Harry Maguire Understandable

Harry Maguire

Harry Maguire was booed at Old Trafford and at Wembley over the weekend. How is he supposed to win back the hearts of fans of both his club and his country? It is not the fans’ job to put nails in the coffin of their stars. Rather get behind them after England’s 3-0 victory over the Ivory Coast last night. As England manager, Gareth Southgate was quick to point out after the match.

Harry Maguire’s substitution in United’s 1-0 home defeat to Atletico Madrid resulted in booing. They also made sarcastic cheering around Old Trafford earlier this month. However, it can be explained quite simply. The same could be said for Marcus Rashford over the last 12 months. Though he has not become the liability that Maguire has. However, both Ralf Rangnick and Gareth Southgate have dropped him.

The worst captain in the history of Manchester United is Maguire in that context. It’s impossible to believe that he still holds that position despite the presence of gifted leaders like Bruno Fernandes and Cristiano Ronaldo. This isn’t Maguire’s fault, it’s the manager’s.

The frustration of fans, the reason behind booing Harry Maguire

In response to the list of mistakes, he has made personally both this season and last. He has been stood by four managers – Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Michael Carrick, and Rangnick at United, and Gareth Southgate for England. Solskjaer did not only not drop the 29-year-old. He played him in every match.

This bad patch must be played through. Apparently, that isn’t working. Some say that there is too much expectation of Maguire. This is due to his £80 million price tag. While others say that perhaps the price tag is keeping him. In either case, United may believe his value will be protected if he is the captain and a starter on the first team.

Regardless of the reason, Maguire seems almost impervious. It seems both United and Southgate have covered up Maguire’s incredibly appalling behavior on holiday in Mykonos. Meanwhile, he has been convicted of assaulting a police officer. He also tried to bribe an officer. Maguire assaulted police officers. He was convicted.

Booing a player is never an option. However, you can understand supporters’ frustration behind the incident against Harry Maguire. Regardless of what his bosses may have for choosing him. Both England and Manchester United fans all want Maguire to progress. They want him to play in both starting XIs on merit and not because of twisted reasons.
